Head of Radiation Facilities and Sources Safety Sector

ENRRA Head of Radiation Facilities and Sources Safety Sector Dr. Mohamed Hasan assumed office on November 1st, 2020.

Dr. Mahmoud has a BSc, MSc and Ph.D. in chemistry from Faculty of Science, Ain Shames university. He was working at the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) from 1995 to 2020. Dr. Mahmoud served as a professor of Radioactive Waste Management since 2015 with over 24 years of experience in the field of treatment of radioactive waste and a dynamic 16- years’ experience in the field of radiation protection, radioactive waste management and waste safety at EAEA.

In 2013, he was appointed as a head for Nuclear Safety Research & Radiation Emergency Department, EAEA. In 2018, he was appointed as a head for Analytical Chemistry and Control Department, EAEA.

From 2008 to 2019, he served as a senior operator at the EAEA centralized radioactive waste management facility of Egypt and in 2020, he acted as a manager for the EAEA centralized radioactive waste management facility of Egypt.

From 2003 to 2020 he participated in coordinating a huge two international project between Egypt and USA regarding the life cycle of radioactive sealed sources in Egypt, namely IMPRSS project, (Integrated Management Program for Radioactive Sealed Sources in Egypt) and ARPRSS project (Amnesty Recovery Program for Radioactive Sealed Sources in Egypt).

In 2004, Dr. Mahmoud and through the IMPRRS project appointed as a group leader for upgrading, securing and modernizing the old regulatory Body of Egypt (The Executive Office for Radiation Protection, EORP). In 2005, he introduced the IAEA RAIS database to the EORP for the national radioactive sealed sources registry.

Dr. Mahmoud continues his work regarding radiation safety during the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Dr. Mahmoud was born in 1970; he is married and has three children
