For the First time: Egypt participates as “Observer” in the Forum of the State Nuclear Safety Authorities of the Countries Operating WWER Type Reactors
The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) represents the government of Egypt today Tuesday, November, 2021 as an observer in the Forum of the State Nuclear Safety Authorities of the Countries Operating WWER Type Reactors, held virtually in Hungary during 30 November- 2 December 2021.
A Senior technical team headed by Professor Dr. Samy Shabaan ENRRA Chairman participated in the opening session of the forum, the technical team composed of Prof. Dr Usama Seddec – Vice Chairman of ENRRA, Dr. Mohamed Gahin – Head of Nuclear Installations Saftey Sector, Dr. Ashraf Kamoun – Head of Inspection and Enforcement Department and Dr. Abdelfattah Soliman – Head of Center of Excellence. From the other side, H.E Andrea Beatrix Kadar, Director General of Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA), gave the opening remarks.
ENNRA’s Chairman will be representing Egypt among three other countries as observers, he will be presenting the “Regulatory Infrastructure Development at ENRRA” to share ENRRA’s experience as a fully independent regulatory authority, entrusted with regulatory and control functions for safety, security and safeguards related to nuclear radiation fields.
It’s worth mentioning that the Forum of the regulatory bodies of the countries operating WWERs was established in 1993. The objective of the Forum is to promote higher safety and radiation protection in the countries concerned by way of utilizing the collective experience, information sharing and joint efforts of the national regulatory bodies to address safety issues and improve the policy and practices of regulatory activities.
