Prof. Samy Soliman “ENRRA Chairman” received an invitation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to participate in the 64thGeneral Conference Virtual Side Event and its high level panel on “The Role and Responsibility of FNRBA in Strengthening Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security in Africa” organized by Morocco.

The event took place on Thursday, 24th of September 2020, from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The objective of this event is to present the role and responsibilities of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA) in strengthening nuclear and radiological safety and security in the Africa region. The event was opened by the Director General of the IAEA, HE Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi and by the Vice-President of the 64th General Conference of the IAEA, HE Mr. Jalal Allachi, Ambassador of Libya.

The objective of this event attended by more than 120 participants was to share experiences and lessons learned on the activities, role and responsibilities of the FNRBA which is made up of 6 thematic working groups specialized in legislative and regulatory infrastructure, radiation protection and waste safety, nuclear safety infrastructure, regulatory infrastructure for emergency preparedness and response, improving safety in the transport of radioactive materials and nuclear security infrastructure.

During the panel, Prof. Samy praised the endeavors conducted by the different activities of FNRBA countries and the support provided by the IAEA in that regards and the need to boost strong synergies between the African countries. He further elaborated on the latest achievements that ENRRA was able to achieve during the last couple of years, especially in the framework of the Legal and Regulatory reform in the nuclear and radiological sector and invited countries to the inauguration of new ENRRA premises in the upcoming future
